How to use Photoshop Single Row Marquee Tool
Single Row Marquee Tool is one type of Marquee Tool and it is located in Marquee Tools group as one of marquee tools. It creates a rectangular shape canopy on image’s layer transparently but the height of the rectangular shape is set to 1 pixels. However, the width of the same very small rectangular shape is set to unlimited but limited to width of the document. Photoshop users use single row marquee tool to draw horizontal lines easily in image documents. Similarly, it can separate a single row area from any type of picture by creating a single row selection path.
It is not frequently used tool but not ignorable. Hence, it is available in marquee tools group as a tool in tool box. Single Row Marquee Tool is indicated by a dashed rectangular shape icon in marquee tools group. Alternatively, users can find the marquee tools group by using a keyboard shortcut M. Marquee Tools group usually shows Rectangular Marquee Tool as its default icon in toolbox but there is not guarantee for it because it can show one of four tools as its icon. In other words, you can recognize marquee tools group or use keyboard shortcut. Once you recognize it, move your mouse’s curse on it and hold left button for a while to see dropdown menu in which you see Single Row Marquee Tool.
How to use
- Create a new photoshop document with desired height and width.
- Visit Toolbox, identify Marquee Tools group and open list of marquee tools in a dropdown menu and select Single Row Marquee Tool from list. Simply, Toolbox > Marquee Tools Group > Single Row Marquee Tool.
Drawing Single Row
Once you select single row marquee tool, move mouse’s cursor on surface of the photoshop document and click on it. Photoshop shows you a straight line on surface of the image document but it occupies entire width of the document.
In fact it is not a straight line because single row marquee tool created a sectional selection path with 1px height. As you zoom the image document to its higher resolution, it shows you the rectangular path with 1 pixels height.
In this Tutorial the same single row marquee tool is zoomed up to 3200% and it showed the straight line at 100% as a single row rectangular selection path with 1 pixel height. In this way, Photoshop creates rectangular rasterize type single row selection path in CS1, CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6 version programs when user uses single row marquee tool in image documents.
